Accomplished Psychiatrist Joins Ponderosa Pediatrics

Psychiatrist Gayle L. Gregory, MD, has spent much of her medical career caring for children and adolescents who face mental health issues. She’s helped children in nearly every setting: inpatient hospitals, outpatient centers, residential facilities, schools and more.

Beginning August 11, Dr. Gregory – who is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry/Neurology – brings her impressive experience to Dignity Health, Yavapai Regional Medical Group (YRMG), Ponderosa Pediatrics. Dr. Gregory will serve as the pediatric clinic’s Mental Health Provider. She will care for young patients with an array of mental health issues, including:

  • Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
  • Anxiety
  • Behavior issues
  • Depression
  • Mood disorders
  • School challenges

“Our physical, emotional and mental health are all interrelated—one affects the other,” explains Dr. Gregory. “That’s why clinic settings, like Ponderosa Pediatrics, are a great benefit to patients. It’s good when medical professionals from different backgrounds collaborate to treat the whole patient.”

A Call to Care
Dr. Gregory realized early on in her education that she wanted to support people – particularly children and adolescents – who were facing emotional and mental health challenges.

She studied psychology as an undergraduate and went on to earn a medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine, Peoria. This was followed by an internship and a residency in psychiatry at the University of California, School of Medicine, Irvine.

During her residency, Dr. Gregory decided to specialize in child psychiatry. This led her to pursue a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry, also at the University of California, School of Medicine, Irvine.

“I enjoy talking to kids,” she says. “At a young age, there’s lots of preventive work that can be done before their responses to trauma become set in stone. For example, children who are experiencing anxiety or depression due to trauma or loss, can learn coping skills that will make their lives better.”

Serving the Quad Cities
Dr. Gregory has been making lives better for Quad Cities residents for nearly 20 years. During much of that time, she was affiliated with West Yavapai Guidance Clinic where she was a staff psychiatrist working with children.

“I have a deep connection to our community,” Dr. Gregory says. “It’s gratifying that I’ve had a small part in making our community better by helping our children grow up healthy.”
