GoNoodle Gets Kids Moving at School and at Home

Why are hundreds of Quad-City children running, jumping, dancing, singing and laughing in their classrooms each day? Because their teachers have the inside scoop on an easy and engaging way to encourage daily fitness. It’s called GoNoodle. And thanks to a sponsorship from Yavapai Regional Medical Center, it’s free-of-charge to all schools, homeschool groups, after-school and childcare programs, as well as families at home.

GoNoodle is a web-based suite of hundreds of movement games and videos that get kids dancing, running, jumping, stretching, deep breathing, and more. Kids become familiar with the fun, engaging characters and look forward to exercising with them again and again.

In school, GoNoodle gets kids out of their desks and moving, which re-energizes and focuses attention, improves behavior and allows for better academic performance.

At home, GoNoodle turns screen time into active time.

The sponsorship from YRMC allows users to access the premium version called GoNoodle Plus, where deeper content and core subject-aligned videos and games are customizable by the user. It also provides reports on minutes of physical activity – a great motivator for increasing children’s involvement.

Signing up is easy. All you need to do is create a username and password and provide your email address. Click here for more information.

From January through December, 21,080 GoNoodle games were played in Quad-City schools. This translates to 1,253,202 minutes of student physical activity. In September 2016 alone, the number of area students using GoNoodle in the classroom reached a whopping 3,383.

“My students love GoNoodle!” says a local teacher, “I love that they are exposed to exercise and singing. My students have so much fun together during GoNoodle, and I love seeing them have so much fun. GoNoodle provides so many opportunities to discuss teamwork, sportsmanship, and being yourself. GoNoodle helps me with classroom management every day, and I am so grateful for that.“

Families are encouraged to use GoNoodle at home as well. Local parents are creating new ways to have family fun time while making their homes healthier.

With the family at home in mind, GoNoodle’s newest innovation is GoNoodle Kids, an iOS app that can be found in the Apple iTunes store. Within the first couple of weeks, GoNoodle Kids was ranked the #1 free app in both the Kids and Education category, and was named overall #1 free iPad app in the Apple store. “GoNoodle aligns very well with our Vision of a Total Healing Environment which is based on caring for the body, mind and spirit,” says Robbie Nicol, Executive Director, Community Outreach and Philanthropy at YRMC, “YRMC is proud to sponsor programs like GoNoodle, as well as Partners for Healthy Students and the YRMC Family Resource Center that enrich the lives of children and young families in our community.”
