Gastroenterologist Mark Thomas Worthington, M.D., A.G.A.F., is Yavapai Regional Medical Center’s Physician of the Year for 2016.
“It is the greatest and most humbling honor to be recognized in this way for just doing my job,” states Dr. Worthington. “I am so proud to be part of an organization that cares so much and works so hard to bring new services to our community.”
YRMC’s Total Healing Environment Physician of the Year is selected annually by YRMC employees and Medical Staff and presented to a Physician who:
- Provides excellent patient care.
- Is sensitive to the needs and desires of patients.
- Emulates positive relationships with employees and volunteers.
- Is a team player and shows respect to everyone with whom he or she comes into contact.
- Takes pride in YRMC and the community.

Dr. Worthington joined YRMC’s Medical Staff in 2010. He completed his medical degree at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tennessee, and completed Internship and Residency training in Internal Medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, where he was Chief Resident in 1991. Dr. Worthington is Fellowship-trained in Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Molecular Biology and Genetics at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Dr. Worthington has also served on the faculty at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.
Dr. Worthington serves on the YRMC PhysicianCare Finance Committee, the Patient Blood Management Committee, the Surgical Case Review Committee, and the Physician Leadership Council. Dr. Worthington has also recently assumed the responsibilities of Medical Director for YRMC PhysicianCare.
