Rita on AZTV’s Sandy and Friends – Coconut Pecan Chocolate Truffles

| Posted by | Categories: YRMC Your Healthy Kitchen

Chocolate truffles are a type of chocolate confectionery, traditionally made with a chocolate ganache center coated in chocolate. Chocolate can actually be quite healthy. Cocoa has some really important antioxidants that have been shown that even go into our brains. The brain is very selective of what it lets in and out and the antioxidants in cocoa are well received by key areas of our brain.

Cocoa contains more flavonoid antioxidants than many fruits and vegetables and green tea. It also contains caffeine, theobromine, tryptophan, anandamide, phenylethylamine, oleic acid, minerals like magnesium, manganese, sulfur, zinc, copper, iron, calcium and potassium, protein, fiber and vitamins B1, B3, B2, B9, B5 and E.

Oxidation is what ages us; it ages our skin and it ages our brains. So we want to have lots of antioxidants in our food and cocoa just so happens to be packed with flavonoid antioxidants. So forget about the guilt and enjoy this rich and decadent treat!
