Don’t be alone this Christmas. As a gift to the community, St. Luke’s Episcopal Church is hosting a free event so that no one needs to spend Christmas alone this year. The event will be held at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church at Highway 89 and Ruger Road from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Christmas Day. If needed, shuttle services to and from the event in Prescott, Prescott Valley, and Chino Valley will be provided.
According to St. Luke’s church volunteer Laura Norman, “This is an opportunity for anyone who is alone to come and have fellowship on Christmas Day.” This is the 37th annual “Don’t Spend Christmas Alone” event. It was originally intended to provide homeless people the opportunity to share companionship and enjoy a warm meal on Christmas, but its scope has broadened and now includes anyone in the community who does not want to be alone on Christmas. During the event, a meal with dessert will be provided. There will be Christmas carols and Santa Claus will also be in attendance.
Anyone 13 years or older who would like to volunteer on the day of the event can call the St. Luke’s Episcopal Church office at (928) 778-4499.
If you need shuttle service to and from the event, you can meet at the following locations for pick up:
- Prescott: Staples/Sprouts at Sheldon and Montezuma every half hour from 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
- Prescott Valley: Safeway 11:20 a.m. and 12:20 p.m. and Casa Adult Center 11 a.m. and 12 p.m.
- Chino Valley: Senior Center 10:25 a.m., 11:25 a.m. and 12:40 p.m.; Safeway 10:35 a.m., 11:35 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.; and American Legion 10:45 a.m., 11:45 a.m. and 12:20 p.m.
Laura Norman explained, “You don’t have to be homeless or living alone to attend. Maybe your family is far away or there is another reason you are alone on Christmas. Anyone for any reason is welcome.” She playfully added, “And I am NOT cooking!”
